Stewardship

Families know and understand the values of the lands they manage.  Their property often are located in the river and stream valleys with habitat that supports a high diversity of wildlife.  Practicing high standards of land stewardship over the generations provides a public benefit not recognized by the market prices paid for the food and fiber produced on their property.

Incentives that  deter land use conversion protect these public benefits that are external to the market.  The Idaho Working Lands Coalition supports market based incentives that protect productive lands that also provide these public benefits.
